![]() Why is what we do at Underground Naturals important? When you read the back of your shampoo bottle, do you know and understand all of the ingredients on that list? If you are like most of us, you don’t. You cannot even begin to understand what half of what you are reading actually means. This should concern you! Why? …because the largest organ of your body is your skin, and it absorbs over 60% of what you put onto it. Why is this a big deal? The average woman wears around 515 chemicals every day. From makeup, soap, face lotion, and perfume to cleaning the house with every cleaner known to man, we are introduced to chemicals. There are more than 10,000 chemical ingredients that are permitted in our personal care products, and many of them are hazardous to our health. If you are not convinced that your skin absorbs most of these chemicals, think about this: conventional lipstick is the most universally used beauty product in a woman’s arsenal. These beauty products actually contain some of the most dangerous chemicals and we willingly place these chemicals right on our mouths! Our bodies have been found to be filled with the chemicals that we willingly use consistently. According to www.fightchronicdisease.org, by 2030 almost half of the US population will be fighting chronic disease. From heart disease and stroke to cancer, normal Americans are trying to figure out why they are consistently sick. Many of these illnesses can be linked to the chemicals that can be found in our systems. Underground Naturals is dedicated to teaching you about the adverse effects of these chemicals and to help give you a better alternative to the products you use every day. Take time to read through our articles, and send us questions. We would love to hear from you.

Reading labels can be tricky. As we gain more knowledge about the dangers sitting on the grocery store shelves, we are trying to make better, healthier decisions for ourselves and for our families. I’ve been doing this for a few years now, so here are some quick pointers that I would love to pass on to you as you learn how to search for safe health and beauty care.
Don’t take for granted the front of the product when it says “Made With...” because that typically means that they have used just enough of the good stuff to get by, but that product is usually loaded with the ingredients you are trying to avoid. This is true with everything from food to your health and beauty products. Know the ingredients you are trying to avoid so that you can spot it quickly. For instance, when I am looking for a great all natural lotion, I see what they are offering on the front of the bottle, but I turn it over and start reading the ingredients, and even though I don’t understand all of those ingredients, I know that I want to avoid the most common dangerous chemicals like propylene glycol and dimethicone, so I look for them immediately. You don’t have to be a great scholar or have 3 degrees in your back pocket to be able to muddle through these seemingly complicated labels. Making wiser choices does take a bit of research on your part, yes, but it is not as difficult as we sometimes make it out to be. Sometimes it’s as easy as turning over a product. If you know what you want to avoid, you will begin spotting those ingredients right away. Wading through those isles can be difficult, but with a few quick tips and a little bit of research under your belt, you can make healthier, wiser choices for you and your family, leading you to a fantastic shopping experience. ![]() Mother’s Day is just around the corner. For those of you who are a little behind (aren’t most of us these days?!), Mother’s Day is May 14th. Of course, at Underground Naturals we have you covered for amazing gift ideas, but the Mother’s Day gift is only part of the day. What every Mom truly wants is to be recognized for how much she sacrifices to show her family how much she loves them. Now, don’t get us wrong. Mom’s love the time off that this beautiful day brings… …time off from making dinner, doing laundry, separating quarreling kids, or just time off from doing everything that a Mom must do on a daily basis. However, there is a misunderstanding that Moms are frustrated and unhappy about the work that it takes to get through every day. This is simply not true. Most Moms give all that they have every day because they love their families. They don’t think about all that they are doing. They just do it. Dishes. Dinners. Scraped knees. Dirty diapers. Laundry. Vacuuming. The list goes on and on! …and those are just the things that happen around the house. That does not even include the list of demands placed on Moms who work a job outside of the home. But the miracle of Moms is that they don’t do it begrudgingly! Moms love (almost) every minute of their lives. Moms love the busyness of being Mom. Moms give without looking for anything in return… …except… Gratitude. There is nothing in this world that says “I love you” to a Mom like gratitude. Gratitude for Mom comes from a heart of understanding, and that is what makes it so powerful. Moms don’t mind giving until they fall into bed exhausted at the end of the day, and they will often do it without hearing a “thank you” at all during the day. So, when a heart-felt “thank you” is given, it easily melts a Mother’s heart. So, this year when you give your Mom her Mother’s Day gift, take a moment to write her a Thank You letter. Thank her for the sleepless nights she spent by your side. Thank her for being the taxi service of your youth. Thank her for making your favorite dinners. Thank her for being patient with you when you didn’t deserve it. Thank her for giving you the last cookie (even when she really really wanted to eat it!). Gratitude. It’s the gift she will never forget. ![]() Taking care of a baby is literally the toughest job that you will ever love. They come into this world so innocent and untouched by the world. That is why parents take so much care in protecting their little ones. Choosing toys, car seats, clothing, and diapers becomes top priority, and parents want the best for their little ones. These choices are important and should be thoroughly researched, and choosing the right baby skin care should never be overlooked. On average, most people are exposed to around 168 chemicals a day, just by using commercial skin care products. Research has shown that these chemicals can be found throughout the human body and are often stored in human tissue. As the largest organ on the human body, human skin is living and breathing. It absorbs over 60% of everything that is applied to it. That means that skin absorbs more than the human colon. So, when choosing skin care for your little one, know that what you put ON your little one is just as important as what you put IN your baby. In other words, if you are going to take the time to seek out organic baby food to avoid unnecessary chemicals for your little one (which is absolutely the best way to go and HIGHLY encouraged by Underground Naturals!), then take the time to research skin care products for your little one because it matters just as much. Underground Naturals uses simple olive oil to create our pure Baby Wash. We have also created a pure and simple baby lotion, diaper care balm, and more. We know how important it is to give little ones the best start possible. Never use anything on your little one that you cannot read or understand. Skin care should never be complicated. It should be pure. It should be simple. And we have you covered from the moment your little one enters this world. ![]() We work hard to make sure that our loved one knows how important they are to us. Valentine's Day is just one day out of the year that we have the opportunity to make sure that our special someone feels a little bit of extra love. From chocolates and flowers to sending some amazing Underground Naturals Products, we try to plan ahead to show the love. However, no matter how carefully we plan, things can still go awry. The expectations of a perfect evening can be foiled in a moment. Life is full of unexpected events that can potentially ruin your perfect plans. But let's take a moment to truly appreciate the imperfections that shake up our perfect plans. Those imperfections become the memories that we talk about and laugh about for years to come. Here are some of our favorites that have been shared with us along the way... My husband had given me a small box of my favorite chocolates and I was so excited! Being on a tight budget, it was a big deal that he bought them. I put them aside so that I could enjoy them during a quiet moment. Later in the day I couldn't find the box and I couldn't find my 2 year old daughter. I found her, with the box, under the kitchen table. She was covered in chocolate and what was not eaten had been drooled on or licked! I was so sad, but she was very happy! I gave our 4 kids the box of chocolates that have become the yearly Valentine's Day tradition at our house. At that time our son was 4. He came over and gave me a big hug and gave me his box of chocolates. I thought it was so sweet! Then I opened the box. He had taken a bite out of each chocolate. He ate the ones he liked and put the ones he didn't like back in the box and gave that to me. Quite a few years ago the florist brought me 24 Beautiful Red Roses.. I was stunned... Then he said: " would you please give these to your neighbors, they are not home now." True Story! My date came to pick me up to go out ..... and my Doberman jumped up on him and broke his nose. I married the guy anyway! I put a trail of candy hearts and chocolates leading to a sweet valentines surprise at the end of the trail..... our dog ate all the hearts and ripped through most of the kisses leaving a trail of drool and random scattered pieces of foil. These stories are great! If you really think about it, the moments that we talk about over and over again are usually the stories about the biggest mishaps! The most memorable moments happen when we are least expecting them. The imperfect moments are when life happens, and we have the opportunity to remember something spontaneous and usually hilarious! At Underground Naturals, we hope that your Valentine's Day was full of wonderful, unexpected surprises. From all of us here at Underground Naturals,
we hope that your Valentine's Day is filled with love and laughter. At Underground Naturals, we want women to know that true beauty will never come from a bottle. True beauty comes from the inside. And when you wear Happiness, it does make you naturally beautiful.
You take care of the inside, and we are here to help you take care of the outside. Underground Naturals. Rooted in Nature. ![]() Most of us are aware that our lives consist of many dangers that are surrounding us every day. We see the big and the small. Looking outside, we are fully aware that we should not walk out into a busy street or take our chances walking alone down a dark, back alley. Sadly, over the last few years we are finding some of the dangers that are literally lurking right under our noses where we never knew that we should even be looking. These days we are becoming increasingly aware that there are dangers in our own homes. We have learned that choosing healthy begins with watching the toxic household cleaners we use and ends with making better choices for our health and beauty products. Because of the onslaught of great information, we are making better choices for our families. We are no longer allowing large companies to dictate what is best for our families, and we are taking the health of ourselves and our children into our own hands. Here is what we are learning that we were never taught before... Genetically modified....BAD Chemicals in skin care....BAD Pesticides...BAD Big companies looking to take care of their bottom line and not you...BAD Going organic...GOOD Researching your own health...GOOD Buying Local...GOOD Reading labels...GOOD Knowing what you put on and in your body...GOOD ...and that list goes on as well. The key: Knowledge is Power! However, taking that knowledge and translating that into a great list toshop from when you need to restock your home can be a pretty daunting task. Take it from me. We have been there. The day that I found out that genetically modified corn was the most likely culprit in my son’s health issues, I ended up replacing all of our food. I grabbed my checkbook and headed right into the grocery store. But looking for “corn free” foods, or at least “organic non-gmo corn” listed as an ingredient, sent me into a tailspin! Two hours later I was frustrated and tired. As I read the ingredients on the boxes or packages I realized that I was clueless about what I was truly feeding my family. All of the changes were difficult but all were possible. What I did learn throughout the process was life-changing, and these lessons have carried me through the years. What I learned: 1) Any change you make IS possible, if you can learn to be patient with yourself. Take the time to study, learn, and research the ingredients in the food you are eating or the products that you are using. 2) The changes that we made completely changed the health of my son and he is perfectly healthy today. All of those changes were worth the effort and I would do it all again just to have him this healthy. 3) Stick to brands that you know will consistently support your goals of living a healthier lifestyle. Underground Naturals is that company for me. When I use their products I know that I can trust all ingredients because I can read and understand all of their labels. |
